DIY Hot Air Balloons

I recently threw a baby shower for one of my high school friends. A mutual friend and I came up with the idea to throw her a whimsical tea party. I really wanted to make something unique that would really capture our theme. I found this website and these wonderful hot air balloon decorations. I simply had to make them.

They are super cute and not all that difficult. Here’s my step by step:

I got all of my supplies from Michaels –

You will need:
·      Paper lanterns (I used 12 inch)
·      Buckets/Totes to use as the basket
·      Ribbon
·      Hot glue gun

The first thing I did was cut 8 pieces of ribbon into 18-inch strips.

Each balloon needs 4 strands of ribbon, so set 4 ribbons with each balloon. Next, glue  one end of each ribbon around the balloon evenly spaced and 1 ¼ inches inside the balloon.  Do this for each balloon.

Then, glue each ribbon to the inside of the bucket. Make sure it evens out and the balloon hangs straight. I did this by letting the basket suspend slightly so I could see if all the ribbons were equally taut. Do for the two remaining balloons.

Let them dry for a couple hours.

I chose to hang mine with ribbon but you can hang them with fishing line, twine or anything you have on hand! It’s whimsical right? So get creative

Suspend your balloons and enjoy!

A Whimsical Tea Party

One of my good friends from high school is having her first baby and I was so excited to throw her a baby shower. I got together with Kati, one of her friends, and we and we thought that “A Whimsical Tea Party” would be a great way to celebrate a little girl coming into their family. I had images of decorative books, teacups, hot air balloons and of coarse fresh flowers running through my head. I started collecting teacups and made some DIY hot air balloons, which I love how they turned out! Kati ordered some macaroons from a place in Orem Utah called le petit macarons. These are probably the best macaroons I have ever had and everyone needs to try these! I loved our pink nail polish party favors and I loved the heart that we had all of the guests take pictures in front of. I was so happy with how everything came together.

I will be posting my DIY on the hot air balloons soon.

I thought I would leave you with a little tip: you can repurpose a lot of the decorations from other parties you have thrown so hold on to all the decorations you are really proud of!

Gender Reveal Party

My cousins are having their second child and when she approached me and asked me if I would throw her a gender reveal party I immediately said yes! I have always wanted to throw one of these parties and my mind was filled with ideas. After speaking with the mother-to-be we decided to go with the mustache and bow theme. I wanted to make these out of felt and have each guest wear whatever they thought the couple was going to have. I love when people hang up baby clothes at showers because it just reminds you how tiny and cute babies are. I found a picture of yarn wrapped letters and knew I needed them for my shower. And finally what would a baby shower be without striped straws!

The blue outfit was mine! That makes it vintage right?!

 The expecting parents!

We had her answer old wives tales

She thought it was a boy but...

It's another girl!! Her big sister couldn't be happier!!

For the big reveal none of us knew what it was. We had my sister look in the envelop and cut holes in all the blue ballons then we each go either a pink or blue balloon and blew them up. When the pink ones inflated we knew it was a GIRL!!

I thought I would leave you with a tip: If you're going to do an activity make it something that is quick and easy! Most people come to parties to socialize.
